Each show will offer the opportunity for a listener to win two tickets to a Corpus Christi event. House of Rock will provide tickets weekly to one of their exciting, upcoming shows for one lucky listener.

House of Rock was established in 2005 in the heart of downtown Corpus Christi. Since their early years we have supported a wide range of entertainment including live music, art shows and many other cultural events. In addition to entertainment, they host private events, corporate events and fundraisers.

House of Rock is divided into two sections: The Venue and The Main Bar. The Venue hosts live music and entertainment, as well as private events such as weddings, fundraisers, and parties. The Main Bar, strictly 21+ (valid I.D required), is open 7 days a week and there is never a cover.

We love House of Rock and appreciate their support and partnership.

Released: 3/17/12
Recorded: 3/14/12
Opening Music: Jimmy Willden, How to Deal; See Jimmy’s Facebook Page

Alt titles: ‘The Place that Rhymes with Jiko’s,’ ‘All I have is 18-30!’

Episode Zero was released primarily to give Seth a podcast file to set up the back end, iTunes, the mobile site, etc. We also took the opportunity to get major introductions out of the way so that we can hit Episode One without having to introduce ourselves and the show.

Show Rule #1: The audience knows everything.

We will create a master notepad to write down all the future ideas of the show.
-What happened to Joe’s radio show?
-What happened to Joe’s Caller-Times column?
-Why doesn’t Corpus Christi Twitter?
-Why does Corpus Christi like chain restaurants more than local restaurants?
-Corpus Christi Redbox etiquette.

Who: Joe Hilliard and Seth Caylor
What: Everything CC including music, guests (local newsmaker or roundtable), designed to compete with local talk radio. Our first guest for Episode One is Joe Adame. Episode Three will feature a roundtable that Joe and Seth are very excited about.
When: More or less weekly
Where: Go here to learn where to find the podcast.
Why: News outlets are falling apart which means that places to have intelligent discourse about our city are limited. The main reason for the show is to create conversation about Corpus Christi, a city that requires conversation. Limited, local news outlets that have abandoned their responsibility and ability to provide this critical ingredient are providing examples of larger issues our city faces. Anonymous, hate-and-lie-filled internet comments and it’s-all-the-Democrats’-fault parrot radio have proven themselves one step from extinction.

The problems with the outlets for conversation that exist are that:

1) Lack of options breeds complacency in both the talk radio show or newspaper and the audience itself who believes that what they’re getting is all that exists.

2) With few options we’re fooled into thinking that nationwide shows equal quality.

3) Just because ‘the man’ gives it to you doesn’t mean it’s good.

Joe loves Corpus Christi. Seth does too. But both will admit that it’s far from perfect. The solution is talking the imperfections out.

JHCC is all about talking it out. And having some fun.

For months, city nuisance Joe Hilliard flirted with the idea of producing an everything-about-Corpus-Christi podcast as the natural evolution of both his retired talk radio program and retired Caller-Times column.

What to do after these two popular platforms? An uncensored, anything-goes podcast, of course.

Then, while making an effort to find some constructive discourse on a specific local issue, he made two mistakes: he turned on a local talk radio program and then read the comment section under a Caller-Times article.

Both were toxic, useless wastes of time that, most sadly, didn’t come close to meeting their potential.

For better or worse he picked up the phone and called ex-podcast-partner-in-crime Seth Caylor asking if he’d like to rejoin to start Joe’s daydream.

“Yes,” he screamed running to Best Buy to begin buying gadgets.

After a few hours of calling potential guests, music guests and advertisers, the show was born.

Episode One featuring an interview with Mayor Joe Adame will debut in two weeks.

In the meantime the boys got together to record Episode Zero, an explanatory teaser for potential guests and advertisers. We know it’ll be incredible but most of Corpus Christi simply asks, “What’s a podcast?”

Episode Zero will give you the who, what, when, and where of JHCC.

Here, however, is the Why.

Corpus Christi is a city that requires discourse in order to progress, change, and grow–progress, change and growth that is critical for the city’s very survival.

Overly melodramatic? Then you’re not paying attention to where you live.

JHCC delves into this in more detail in Episode Zero.

Somehow Olive Garden enters the conversation, too.

Joe loves Corpus Christi. Seth does too. But both will admit that it’s far from perfect. The solution is talking the imperfections out.

JHCC is all about talking it out. And having some fun.

Buckle up. It begins.
